About the BHCC
In 2017, blogger/influencer Darlene Lebron discovered she had a major problem. Her closet was filled to the rim with gorgeous pieces that she had previously worn to events and blog shoots, and she hadn’t planned to wear them again. How could she clear out some space in her closet quickly? She realized that Facebook could be a great way to sell her clothing, both freeing up closet space and offering plus size women designer/brand names styles at low prices.
A few sales later, Darlene’s blogger bestie and housemate Sandra Negron joined in, selling her own clothing. It was then that the Blogger House Curvy Closet was born.
The power duo started having sales via Facebook Live once a month, which they also noticed had become a space that inspired women to get out of their comfort zone, trying new styles without breaking the bank. Their customers were interacting with them on a personal level, sharing their OOTDs and it became more than just selling clothing. It became a community.
Darlene and Sandra started referring to their customers as the BHCC squad and later created a private Facebook group to offer private flash sales and have a safe, non-judgmental place for the squad to share their outfit images and interact with each other.
The BHCC continued to get even more popular, often selling out and their community grew. Then Hurricane Maria happened.
With Darlene and Sandra both from Puerto Rico, they felt like they had to help their homeland in some way. They decided to hold a BHCC relief sale, where they put a call out to influencers, models, bloggers and customers, asking them to donate clothing that they could sell.
All of the proceeds went to purchasing necessities for hurricane survivors such as water, food and toiletries. They partnered with Suzanne Ujaque Guzman of SuStyleTV to facilitate the local distribution of supplies and extra clothing that was not sold.
The women saw how popular the relief sale was, leading them to see an opportunity to grow BHCC into a full-fledged online consignment marketplace that would include other sellers, offering a wider size range and more assortment.
Their first influencer sale kicked off with the closet of Maddy Jones of Editor-in-Chief of PLUS Model Magazine. It was a great success, leading Darlene and Sandra to start weekly sales that featured, not only the closets of influencers, but also those of the BHCC squad.
Two years later, the duo have sold over 6,000 pieces from top brands and designers in a size range of 10 to 32. They have sold clothing from the closets of top influencers and bloggers such as:
Cece Olisa, Co-Founder of The Curvy Con
Essie Golden, Creator of the Golden Confidence
Meaghan O’Connor, Plus Size Celebrity Stylist & Founder of Little Lime Dress
Kellie Brown, And I Get Dressed
Maxey Greene, Plus Size Model
Jessie Diaz-Herrera, Plus Size Dance & Choreographer, Curves with Moves
Marcy Cruz, Extended Sizes Fit Model & Founder of Fearlessly Just Me
Ada Rojas, Owner of Botanika Beauty & Founder of All Things Ada
They now ship to the continental US and Puerto Rico and have added a weekly flash sale on Thursdays. They've also started doing pop-ups at select fashion events as a way to bring the BHCC to the public. Their website will launch in Fall of 2019 with plans to continue to grow BHCC and inspire women everywhere to wear what they love on a budget.
